Holistic Aromatherapy
Plants that produce aromatic compounds do so to protect themselves against insects and animals that threaten their survival, to attract pollinators and for plant-to-plant communication. These extracted aromatic compounds, the life force of the plant, are called essential oils. And like the plants, humans can use them for their own protection, support and healing.
Modern day scientific and clinical research has shown that essential oils are indeed beneficial for physical ailments/conditions and for emotional support. It has also shown they support the energetic part of us – often called our spirit, chi, life force or biofield.
The most important thing when using essential oils is the quality of the oils. Only high quality preferably organic oils have true therapeutic benefit and contain the true energy and integrity of the plant.
The rising popularity of using essential oils is in one way a good thing however it does mean that there is a lot more demand for essential oils and this has lead to a large volume of poor quality oils being sold.
There is also a lot of mis-leading information and marketing and it is hard for consumers to know what is good quality and what isn’t. Price is not necessarily an indicator.
Multi-spectrum treatments may use a single oil or a synergistic blend of oils to address physical, emotional and spiritual needs. They are effective in getting in touch with the natural rhythms of the person opening up the opportunity for them to find a way to heal themselves. They have the potential of taking a person to a point where they can surrender, letting life happen and letting go of any desire to change, resist, force or control situations and their outcomes. To a point of trusting that everything happens in its own time.
True surrender is having the wisdom to intuit when certain circumstances are beyond your control and letting whatever needs to happen, happen and life to simply unfold.
Holistic treatments use two pathways for the essential oils to enter our body and into our bloodstream. When applied to the skin they are absorbed and travel around the body via the bloodstream. In this way they are able to deliver a range of benefits to the body’s systems and organs. When inhaled (via the nasal passage) molecules of the essential oils travel from the olfactory nerves directly to the brain and especially impact the amygdala, the emotional centre of the brain.
Most essential oils are safe to use. But there are some precautions that need to be taken, as well as side effects to be aware of. Hence why it is important to have advice from a qualified Aromatherapist when using essential oils.
